About Steve Oscarlece - Poughkeepsie Supervisor Candidate

My Story and Mission

I was born and raised right here in Poughkeepsie. This town isn't just where I live — it's where I grew up, where I met my wife, where we raised our daughter, where I built my career, and where I've watched our community grow and change over the years. When I look at our neighborhoods, I don't see statistics. I see my home.

My work ethic started early. At 12 years old, every day after school and early mornings on the weekends, seven days a week I was delivering the Poughkeepsie Journal to neighbors on my route — learning firsthand what it means to show up, be reliable, and take responsibility. Through my school years I worked a string of part-time jobs, earning my own way and picking up lessons that no classroom could teach. That foundation of hard work has never left me.

"I've been working in this community since I was twelve years old. Poughkeepsie gave me my start — and now I want to give something back."

After earning my degree in Computer Science from SUNY New Paltz, I took a path that I never could have fully predicted — and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I've sat in the cockpit as a Charter and Airline pilot, written code as a Computer Programmer, and built something of my own as a small business owner. Today I serve as the Commissioner of Dutchess County Office of Central and Information Systems (OCIS) — a role that puts me at the intersection of technology, public service, and the responsible management of taxpayer resources. Every one of those experiences taught me something different about problem-solving, accountability, and what it really means to be responsible for others.

"I know what it's like to balance a budget, make a payroll, and answer to people who are counting on you. That's exactly the kind of thinking I'll bring to town government."

I'm running because I believe Poughkeepsie residents deserve a government that's honest with them — no budget surprises, no fine print, no decisions made behind closed doors. You work hard for your money, and I'll fight to make sure it's spent wisely and transparently.

This isn't about politics for me. It's about this community — the one I've called home my entire life. I'm asking for your trust, and I promise to earn it every single day.
